We all know that cyber attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but did you know that the vast majority are very basic in nature, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals. They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked.
…But who is knocking?
Vulnerability to these simple breaches in security can mark you out as target for more in-depth unwanted attention from cyber criminals, because they are looking for targets who don’t have basic Cyber Essentials technical controls in place.
You might have already heard about Cyber Essentials; A simple but effective, Government backed scheme that provides specific tools, advice and training to protect organisations from Cyber attacks. But what about your customers…?
Unfortunately, SME’s tend to lag behind other sectors in their uptake, according to the 2019 Security Breaches survey, with just 19% of these customers aware of the scheme and its benefits. There is an especially wide gap between the largest and smallest businesses when it comes to Cyber Essentials, with just eight per cent of micro businesses having heard of this scheme.
A fresh opportunity for resellers
From our perspective, engaging with new customers using Cyber Essentials as a entry point, provides resellers with a great opportunity to build long lasting relationships and margin. Some SME customers may already be protecting their business using some of the controls, but certification and an enablement package will provide the customer with structure and a long-term plan for managing their security risk – supported by you!
